Faith on trial

If there was a scripture that my natural mind would oppose – this would be it. Mat. 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. There is going to always be someone who, if given a chance would be glad to take advantage of you or even your faith. It seems that the more we enjoy freedom and democracy, obedience to the word of God becomes more difficult for us. We tend to easily forget that we are not entitled to everything we have and possess; it is given to us for a short time from our father in heaven.

We can learn from history - from the beginning Christians didn’t consider things they had as their own. Christians were open to share what they have with those who were in need. When they were persecuted or sued, even robbed of their possessions – the only weapon they used was prayer and blessing of those who did them evil. Heaven was close to them and the inheritance that no one can take from them was real. Even to this day, all around the world, for persecuted Christians it is something that they face and cherish virtually everyday.
As for us who live in luxury and freedom, such theology is almost distinct from our faith. Many “Christians” would “send a soul to hell” (kill someone) who would dare to take advantage of them or their goods. God, who gave you all things, sometimes allows such trials where you can be proved and clearly see where your treasures really are. At such a time He wants to see your trust and obedience to Him. He gave you, and He expects you not to fuss or fight if someone takes it away from you, either by manipulating the law or by force.
I’m sure if we will be found faithful, He will bless us even more. I pray that if such a test comes my way, I could be found faithful. Like in any test, trial or temptation, there is a fine line where the battle is fought and it is very easy to slip toward the flesh. I pray for God’s peace and grace. Oh, God, give us grace!
As we are approaching the end times, it is clear that all across the world, Christian faith is going to be outside of the law, and I foresee that most of us will be tried in this area. God give us the grace to respond as the first church who took joyfully the spoiling of their goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. Heb 10:34
Help us Lord, while there is still time and we are in charge of what we have to make a better use of it and invest it into the kingdom from where no one will be able to take anything from us.
